The Revelation of Jesus Christ - The Eternal Christ - Rev 1: 8
Lesson 6

  April 20, 2011 - Pastor Wayne Clabaugh

"I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty." Rev 1:8 (KJV)

"I am Alpha and Omega”

As we all know, Alpha and Omega are the first and last letters of the Greek Alphabet. While they give us different characters and help us to express ourselves in writing, they have, for all practical purposes – the same meaning. They speak of the eternality of life in conjunction with the God The Father and Jesus the Son.

We find in Colossians 1:17, that nothing existed before God.

“He is before all things, and by him all things consist”

Ps 102:27 tells us…

“But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end.”

Somebody’s not going to like it, but I have to say it again… This is once again that underlying prevalent theme of the WORD of God which speaks of, He “which was, which is, and which is to come.”

What’s more – God wasn’t finished with that verse. He wanted John to get out the WORD once and for all who He IS. He says…

“which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty."

That qualifier at the end tells us that He is not ONLY The Beginning and The Ending, but He is Sovereign! HOW AWESOME IS THAT?

Since He Loved us SO MUCH that He gave us His only begotten son Jesus to give His life in our place, we find in Christ these eternal absolutes:

  • He is eternal

  • He love us with an EVERLASTING LOVE!

  • He took our place on Calvary and made us “at-one” with the Father. In other words He became our substitutionary Atonement.

  • He Is KING OF KINGS and LORD OF LORDS

  • He is The ETERNAL Priest after the order of Melchizedek

  • He is Sovereign.

Now Look at Exodus 3:14. There is a powerful message in this verse.

“And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you”.

Upon entering this study in Revelation the Risen Lord is wanting to make it clear to you and I today that regardless of all our plans or the plans of man, God is still in control. You cannot rush Him and you cannot slow Him down. He’s an “on-time” God.

But even more than that, He has commissioned each of us to go to the strongholds of mankind in our areas – our sphere of influence and say,

"I AM" hath sent me unto you to tell you of His love, and His grace and His mercy.

That is after all the thrust of the Book of Revelation and the Gospel of Christ -  to bring the lost and dying to the awesome knowledge that He is the First and Last, and that He has the Power to handle anything in between. Glory To His Name!
