Today we
continue in what John saw when he turned to see
the voice that was speaking to him, and
in these verses we see more detailed Description
of The Risen ETERNAL Lord.
John continues…
“His
head and his hairs were white like wool, as
white as snow;”
This speaks of
Our Lord’s Eternity and Dignity. He Is the
Ancient of days, and you know we can read that
wonderful depiction found in Daniel the 7th
Chapter and the 9th verse where Daniel said:
“I
beheld till the thrones were cast down, and
the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment
was white as snow, and the hair of his head
like the pure wool: his throne was like the
fiery flame, and his wheels as burning
fire.”
The Ancient
of Days speaks of the Alpha and The Omega;
it speaks of the provision for the "whosoever
will"; that great High Priest we spoke we spoke
about just yesterday who is ever interceding,
ever intervening and ever inspecting His Church.
That’s what John is referring to when He speaks
of when he says:
“his
eyes were as a flame of fire;”
He alone(Jesus)
is privy to the daily activity of the church
here on earth, and this description speaks of
Our Lord’s Penetrating eyes, as He witnesses on
a day by day basis the totality of your
life and mine. He was there last week when you
placed that offering in the offering plate; and
He was there when you snuck a peek at that porn
site or attempted to carry on with a co-worker
in private thinking no one would know. He was
there when you cheated on your taxes, or
borrowed your neighbors tools knowing you had no
intention of giving them back. Those are the
things we think we’re pretty clever about and
yet those eyes as a flame of fire saw it
all, and He has written it all down; and you
will be called to account for every work you
have ever done – good or bad. And let me just
say since I mentioned the bad, let me say that
He saw when you blessed that little old lady
next door with that special soup and sandwich.
And He was there when you bought those shoes for
that child down at the daycare who obviously
needed new ones. He was there when you wrote out
that special offering for missions and he was
there when you were tempted to look at the porn
but you said, “NO!” NOTHING escapes the eyes of
the Lord. He is the vision of the “Eternal
Church” and will one day be the eternal Judge.
That brings us
to the next part of that verse where John says…
“his
feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned
in a furnace”
The Apostle
Paul tells us when the Lord comes, He will bring
to light the hidden things of darkness, and will
make manifest the counsels of the hearts: (Ref.,
1Co 4:5)
That is probably one of the most concise verses
next to the actual verse found here in the Book
of Revelation, speaking of Christ’s inspection
and pending judgment on the church, and it will
one day come to pass.
Then lastly we hear John speaking again of that
voice. He has mentioned before and we’ve had a
little fun with it – likening it to a tornado
siren. But John gets serious about the voice
here. He speaks once again of it being
“the
sound of many waters“
and when we
actually take a closer look at it we see where
this verse is speaking of a Voice of Authority.
He is speaking not just of some trumpet or some
tornado siren, but he is referring to the
Almighty God – The Creator of all mankind.
He is speaking of He who called this world into
existence, and He who will call His children
from the grave at the very end of days!
Now quickly let me finish that off there by
taking a look at verse 16 – it really fits
better here than it would with verse 17, and 18.
It says…
“And he
had in his right hand seven stars: and out
of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword:
and his countenance was as the sun shineth
in his strength.” Rev 1:16 (KJV)
We see the
Lord with seven stars in His right hand which is
significant to this particular passage since in
verses 12 and 13 we saw Jesus in the midst of
the seven golden candlesticks. What is the
significance? The seven golden candlesticks were
the seven churches of Asia Minor. The seven
stars that are in Jesus' right hand then are the
angels of those churches, and this actually goes
back to what I spoke of in verse 12 and 13 when
I mentioned that He was Christ our Intercessor;
Christ our Intervention, and Christ our
Inspector or our Judge.
And John
speaks of that when He says that,
“and
out of his mouth went a sharp two-edged
sword:”
What is that
two-edged sword? It’s the WORD of God. It is as
the Bible says it a sharp sword, and it contains
sharp reproofs for sin, severe threatening
against sin, and gives cutting convictions of
sin. It is a two-edged sword; and as the WORD
says
“… it
is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any
two-edged sword, piercing even to the
dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of
the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of
the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
Heb 4:12 (KJV)
John goes on
and says:
And
“and his countenance was as the sun shineth
in his strength."
Let me just
ask you, “When was the last time you looked
straight into the sun when it shineth “in it’s
strength”? If you did, you probably got a
headache because of the brightness of it. So we
can see where John was coming from in that next
verse where John said,
“And
when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead.”
That’s where
will pick it up next time – I hope you’ll join
us.
